Nation Building: Governance And The Role Of Education In Cultural Identity Formation -Dr. Tahir Abdallah Ahmad

Better education can play a significant role in addressing social issues, cultural diversity and identity. In a multi-cultural educational space like ours in Nigeria, education should be used to teach and explain issues, cultural impact, unclear identity and conflicts, based on inter-cultural pressure.

Educators, scholars and academicians can teach about contemporary crafts, art and artists whose works addresses societal issues.. Like cultural tolerance, literatures, music and movies, etc.
This kind of education challenges all forms of discrimination in schools and society through the promotion of democratic principles of social justice as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

After all I have said above, the link between them is governance. To have good governance there must be proficient leadership and that is what Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje OFR, the Executive Governor of Kano state has provided. His Excellency is one detribalized Nigerian that has kept this country together from his side of the divide.

Under his watch as the executive Governor, Kano has recorded tremendous growth in both economic and human capacity development. In fact, we saw more cultural intermingling and identity of self realization and formation. Peaceful co-existence among ethnics, freedom of association and more..

It is paramount that we set a better precedent for the generation coming after us by providing the kind of quality leadership that can stand the test of time and bring all of us together under one umbrella as a people and as a country, even political parties. Education can never be overemphasized in wanting it standard raised on the scale of preference.
