It was a huge shock to the world yesterday Thursday the 29th of December, 2022 as the passing away of Edson Arantes Do Nascimento popularly known as Pele was announced, especially to the world of football.
Pele has remained unarguably the greatest footballer on earth even till his death. The legend was battling this illness for many years now which has led to his in and out of hospital but this time around could not survive it grip anymore.
Pele who died at the age of 82 on Thursday at the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in Sao Paulo, after a lengthy battle with colon cancer was and still is the only player to have won the World Cup 3 consecutive times. It was a sad day for the world and the Brazilians.
It was a big sight to behold as Christ the Redeemer and the Maracana stadium were lit up Thursday night in honor of Pele as Brazil mourned the death of soccer’s greatest star ever.
