“Every Home A Garden” is the initiative of the wife of the President, Senator Mrs Oluremi Tinubu to drive food security in the country at a critical time such as we are in now. The first lady who has taken the lead to motivate others, especially the women to plant what will be beneficial to them as an immediate solution to be able to provide succor in terms food and vegetables.
The First Lady planted seven types of vegetables, including spinach, water leaf, bitter leaf, lemongrass, scent leaf, okra, and jute mallow, locally known as ewedu.
She emphasized that small efforts from individuals can significantly contribute to alleviating food insufficiency.
She encouraged first-time women farmers nationwide to participate in the competition by cultivating gardens in their homes, believing that the produce will be sufficient to feed their families and neighbors.
She showcased her garden to Chioma Uzodinma, the wife of the Imo State Governor, and Aisha Matawale, the wife of the Minister of State for Defence.
The “Every Home A Garden” competition is open to first-time women farmers across Nigeria. Entries should be submitted to the Office of the Wives of the State Governors. The winner will receive a prize of 25 million naira.
