INEC Suspends Collation of Results In Adamawa, Says Early Declaration Fake

In what looked like a plot to mislead the public and bring the integrity of our electoral process to disrepute by some unscrupulous elements working in the commission, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a statement.

The statement was issued by Barr. Festus Okoye National Commissioner, Information & Voter Education, few hours after of the mischief that took place in Adamawa in the early hours of today by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, declaring Senator Binani as the winner even while collation of results was still ongoing.

“The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a purported declaration of winner in the Adamawa Governorship election by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) even when the process has clearly not been concluded.”

  1. “The action of the REC is a usurpation of the power of the Returning Officer. It is null, void and of no effect.
Consequently, the collation of results of the supplementary election is hereby suspended.”
  2. “The REC, Returning Officer and all involved are hereby invited to the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja immediately.
    Detailed statement to follow shortly.”
