Chaka Demus & Pliers Became a Duo After a Freestyle Performance Together

The duo called CHAKA DEMUS & PLIERS;

The Jamaican reggae duo are made up of rough-voiced deejay, born John Taylor but popularly known as CHAKA DEMUS and smooth-toned vocalist ‘PLIERS’ born Everton Bonner.

They were both established musicians when they teamed up in 1991 after performing together on a mini tour of the U.S. with other reggae artists. During this time they did a little ‘FREESTYLE’ together on stage at the end of the show, which turned out to be the most popular part. They appeared at REGGAE SUNSPLASH in 1992 and the following year broke through to international success.

Their hits include ‘TEASE ME’, ‘MURDER SHE WROTE’, ‘TWIST AND SHOUT’, ‘BAM BAM’ and ‘GAL WINE’ – all taken from their 1993 ‘Tease Me’ album.

They dominated the music world with their party hits which no DJ who wants to capture his audience can ignore. It was a massive hit in the 90’s.. their hit records transcend languages, race and color because the sound was a universal one especially, ‘BAM BAM’ and ‘MURDER SHE WROTE!’ respectively.
