Eedris Abdulkareem is one of the pioneers of Hip-hop music in Nigeria, a former member of the group REMEDIES alongside Eddy Montana and Tony Tetuila from the late 90’s to early 2000, which spanned few years after millennium (Y2K). He later went solo as Eedris Abdulkareem after Tony Tetuila had left them (Eddy & Eedris) earlier, and from his solo career he metamorphosed into the legend he’s today.
Eedris fought the multinationals against the neglect of Nigerian artists whenever they brought in a foreign act, and he did that alone even though that had a major setback in his career which he’s proud of and will always say; ‘he’s the sacrifice for the new era’. He’s an Olympic touch bearer who was the only young person in the company of great minds like Segun Odegbami, Pat Utomi and late Dora Akunyili.
He sang one of the greatest hits to come out of 9ja music industry, ‘Jaga Jaga’ which got even the then President Obasanjo talking and that song is as relevant today as at when it was released. He’s an activist and a crusader through his music, one of such is the song ‘Mr Lecturer’ which talks about molestation by lectures in our higher institution and sex for grades and many others.. And one important thing you can’t but love about Eedris is that, he’s a master stage man, he’s a performer that will leave you gasping for breath and he’s always a delight to watch on stage!
The sad news now reaching us through his former record label boss, Mr Kenny Ogungbe CEO Kennis Music is that he’s having kidney issues and he’s battling it alone for sometime now before it is been brought to the fore now.
We pray for his soonest recovery and may God grant him everything required to go through this face of his life!!
